Yesterday I went to my first Foster Parent support Meeting, its something they have just started to do in our town to give Foster parents a place to come and chat and get to know each other! They hope to run this once a month and have special guests etc!

I found it very interesting! Even though it felt odd to attend when I haven't even had my first placement!! But it worked out ok because of it been the first meeting they had case workers attend! So I got to give EXTRA HINTS that I have a empty bed and cot!!

One of the topics covered was kids with special needs! The speaker was very passionate about the topic and I so wanted to stand up at the end of her talk and clap! I did the next best thing and when the meeting was over I went over and chatted with her and told her how much of an inspiration she was!

When I left the meeting I REALLY hoped that my phone would ring with news of a little one!! I emailed my case worker and hinted again! She is a great worked but doesn't want to throw us in the deep end but start us off with something easy! SO I kinda pushed her to let us in!!! Hopefully I haven't pushed to much! Especially knowing that there are kids out there NEEDING CARE!!

**********And just to update you on the Tooth Fairy he/she left $5 for Kagen who was VERY VERY HAPPY with that!! We also told him not to be pulling out any more teeth to fast as its only the first tooth that gets $5 and the rest $1!!***********

I was going to say, I thought $5 was very generous! Miss M got $5 once, only because the tooth fairy didn't have any change!!! (and forgot to leave the $$ for 3 nights!!!)

You are so right. There are so many kids in the programme. I think the Dept is wise though, you have 3 kids at home, you don't want to go hammer and tongs, or it may knock the whole household for a 6! You'll get the right child, and I have no doubt - you will make a wonderful, positive impact on that child's life.

You know, there doesn't seem to be a very good foster care support group in our city. I think there's one in a larger city about an hour and a half from us but the drive is brutal, especially now with the gas prices, so I wouldn't go anyway.

Our agency tries to host a foster care support group but it doesn't get much attendance so they've dropped it from monthly to every other month.

I think I'm going to put together a post on Craig's List in my city and see if I can start my own support group. I like the idea of guest speakers from time to time!

Thanks for the idea!

Keeping my fingers crossed for you that you'll be matched soon!

That sounds like a great foster group. I hope you get a child soon.
Great idea about $1 for the rest of the teeth.

That is so great to have support and other families that do foster care. Patrick and I have talked about doing foster care, but not having a child to call my own and always having to let go of a foster child and being left with an empty house has been too much to even think about. Once we have Eliana home for a while we might do foster care. I think there needs to be more people who will open their hearts up to these children. I will pray you get a child soon.

$5... what a very, very generous tooth fairy... I think that she should stay at that level of pay... after all there is inflation... hey... what can I say... I am on the side of the kids...

Hi Chelley, I've missed you. Sounds like you are ready for a child. What is wrong with that social worker making you wait. :) I hope your phone rings soon.
